- I recently had the good fortune to purchase a Sharp JX-9500H laser printer.
- I've been very impressed with this printer to say the least. The Sharp
- JX-9500H is HP-II compatible, and as such all software I've tried that has
- been written for the HP-II, has worked perfectly on my Sharp.
- However, the printer has several functions that are cumbersome to set from
- the front control panel, and one function (number of copies) doesn't seem to
- work from the front panel even though the display shows it as being set? So,
- I decided to write this little utility to make my life easier!
- The Sharp JX-9500H has several different printer emulations, but the only
- two I'm ever likely to need are the HP-II and the Epson FX-80 modes. So,
- those are the only two modes provided.
- I also wanted the ability to select the paper source, the page orientation,
- the paper size and the number of copies. Certain functions will not
- necessarily be usable. For one, the FX-80 doesn't allow the number of copies
- to be set through software, so this setting is ignored when in FX-80
- emulation. Also, unless you have a Legal size paper tray, don't select legal
- size and tray source!
- This program functions as an accessory or as a program by simply renaming
- the program to .ACC or .PRG. I wanted to use it as an accessory, but my
- accessory slots were all used up. The least used was an accessory for
- printing envelopes. So, I decided to incorporate an envelope printing utility
- into the SHARP configuration program and replace that accessory with this new
- one. Clicking on 'Save' will save your currently set addresses to a file on
- the disk, so that they'll be there the next time you run the program.
- I highly recommend the SHARP JX-9500H. It prints at 9 pages a minute,
- emulates several popular printers, and is only about 14 inches cubical. That
- INCLUDES the paper tray which is built into bottom of the unit! Rumor has it
- that SHARP is no longer making laser printers under it's own name, but you
- can probably still find one lurking around in a warehouse somewhere!
- I doubt there are very many Atari owners who own this printer, and I don't
- think the program will be of use to anyone else. However, if you have this
- printer, or this program works with your current printer, how about sending
- me a note telling me it works for you? It'd make me feel good just knowing I
- made things simpler for someone else!
